Review

 I wrote a story critique/review on a short story called Flower Wild by Shane Tivenan. The story was based on real-life events when Violet Gibson shot Benito Mussolini. Below I copy and pasted my own review on what I thought about the story: 


Discuss what you liked about the story

Even though I wasn’t a big fan of the story, I really think that the story was well thought out and arranged. The description was very good as well I like the part when she said. “ I was allowed to read, but only what I was told to read”. That just randomly stood out to me

 

Discuss any elements you did not like

 I think that the story was quite repetitive, for example when it kept saying “I was taken back to Northampton after I shot the Italian” sort of confused me and I ended up losing track of the story a few times.

  

Would you change anything about the story? Give reasons for your answers

There’s not much I would change about the story but if I had to change something it would be the “I was taken  here to Northampton after I shot the Italian” part like I said before I think that that part made the story a bit confusing.

Plot:

The story all starts when Violet Gibson an Irish woman attempts to assassinate Benito Mussolini 1926.

In May 1956 she was taken back to Northampton and brought into a mental asylum. From what I read Violet Gibson never felt like anyone really cared about her she always felt invisible to everybody, she explained feeling lonely and isolated. In the end, all she wants is to be buried in a Catholic graveyard surrounded by violets.

  

Setting:

The setting was based in Italy Rome, back in the 1950s

 

Conflict:

The conflict was when Violet Gibson tries to assassinate Mussolini. Even though she didn’t have a specific reason to she still felt like it needed to be done by her.

 

Theme:

I thought the theme was very dark.

This week we are coming down to the final steps in our research project. Because the week before was such a busy week, we ended up leaving everything last minute. This week we are introducing project blogs. My class and I have been asked to create a group project following a social issue of our choice, and to document our journey through this process. For this project, I am working with Aiden Kelly, Rhys Mc Carthy, and Roibeard Mac Cumascaigh from my group 3 Introduction to Digital Media class.  We have been asked to cover the topic of misinformation and disinformation in the media. I personally think that this is a very interesting topic seeing as it's one of those subjects that is commonly discussed yet rarely understood.  This subject goes into dept on the misleading, confusing and false information in the media that we had to face for decades now, even before the internet was introduced to the world. Peer Review 2 This week we did another peer review for our Introduction to Digital Media reading task. I truly learned a lot this time around when it came to the blogs I was giving feedback to. Not only was I able to reflect on my own blog based on the feedback I was giving, but it also gave me the opportunity to look at different writing styles and opinions.    Reading Katie's blog really gave me a clear idea on how to express my points while keeping things short and simple, the way that she was able to state her opinions well and then move on to the next topic quickly was amazing and something I realized I needed to learn how to do.    While reading Kailan's blog I noticed how everything was well thought out and planned.  Her blog was very clear when it came to messaging, opinions and examples.
