Who are BTS?

BTS is a K-pop (Korean pop) group made up of seven members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook who all come from different parts of South Korea. They debuted under Big Hit Entertainment (a Korean Entertainment industry) with the songs "no more dream" followed by "we are bulletproof pt 2".

Over the years the group has produced many great songs around various themes starting with the "School" concept. This was followed by "The Most Beautiful Moments in life", "Wings", and the "Love yourself" series. Their "love yourself: Answer" bringing them to the top of the Us Charts, which leads to them getting praised on Twitter by South Korean President Moon - Jae for their success and getting a chance to speak at the United Nations.

They've been number one on iTunes in over 91 countries and regions with their album map of the soul 7 and are one of the first boy groups to do so. However, it wasn't always like this. In fact, BTS struggled a lot in their more unpopular years. 

Hardships

BTS debuted under Big Hit entertainment. During that time Big Hit wasn't a large company and they struggled a lot financially. They traveled from their home towns to Seoul leaving their family behind to pursue their dreams at a very young age. The youngest only Thirteen years old. The boys all shared a small room and would have to practice 12 - 15 hours a day. 

During their debut days, they would get cut off broadcasts, their songs would get cut in music performance shows, they would often get humiliated on Korean TV, and they were often criticized because came from a small company and didn't fit the Korean beauty standards. 

One of the members RM once stated that he was thankful that two of the other members V and Jungkook had "Good visuals" as it helped them gain fans. They were also always accused of plagiarism with hashtags such as #Plagarismboyscouts and #BangtanPlagarism trending on Twitter.

But now they have pretty much moved on from the hate and are unarguably the most loved boy group today.

Why are they so successful?

I feel like there are four major reasons why BTS is so successful. 

  1. Their music: BTS are very good at making music that people want to listen to. According to billboard their album "Love Yourself: Tear", became the first primary foreign - language No 1 album in over 12 years. Not only that but many people say that the subject of their music has played a big part in their basic. While many pop songs are mostly about love and relationships, BTS covers subjects such as loving yourself, Mental health, and Bullying.

  2. Their performances: BTS have always gotten so much attention for their slick dance routines and their extremely good music videos, that even impressed big stars such as John Cena, Beyonce, Arianna Grande, and Paul McCartney. To polish their dance routines they would practice for hours to get it right.

  3. The Internet: Social media has played a big part in BTS's success. Suga once stated: "I think we're so lucky to be born at the right time, without social media we wouldn't have been so successful". Social media has allowed the group to connect with their followers on a personal level gathering fans from around the world.

  4. The fans: BTS has some of the most loyal dedicated fans ever with over 34 million followers on Instagram, 25.7 million followers on Twitter, and 41 million subscribers on Youtube. The fans (Known as Army) got BTS 300 million online votes to ensure that they won their billboard award. additionally, they viewed the music video for their song DNA 50 million times on youtube. Army's are always showing their love by sharing how much BTS left an impact on them. Constantly showing love for the seven boys.

This week we are coming down to the final steps in our research project. Because the week before was such a busy week, we ended up leaving everything last minute. Starting Out

This week we are introducing project blogs. My class and I have been asked to create a group project following a social issue of our choice, and to document our journey through this process. For this project, I am working with Aiden Kelly, Rhys Mc Carthy, and Roibeard Mac Cumascaigh from my group 3 Introduction to Digital Media class.  We have been asked to cover the topic of misinformation and disinformation in the media. I personally think that this is a very interesting topic seeing as it's one of those subjects that is commonly discussed yet rarely understood.  This subject goes into dept on the misleading, confusing and false information in the media that we had to face for decades now, even before the internet was introduced to the world. It talks about the differences between misinformation vs disinformation, the different ways and methods used by the media and government to convince the minds of its passive audience and it also discusses the dangers this can lead to. Peer Review 2

Peer Review 2 This week we did another peer review for our Introduction to Digital Media reading task. I truly learned a lot this time around when it came to the blogs I was giving feedback to. Not only was I able to reflect on my own blog based on the feedback I was giving, but it also gave me the opportunity to look at different writing styles and opinions.    Reading Katie's blog really gave me a clear idea on how to express my points while keeping things short and simple, the way that she was able to state her opinions well and then move on to the next topic quickly was amazing and something I realized I needed to learn how to do.    While reading Kailan's blog I noticed how everything was well thought out and planned.  Her blog was very clear when it came to messaging, opinions and examples.
