Short Story Summery

 Robin Hood

By James Baldwin

Plot

The story begins in England when two kings are forced to go into hiding, in the woods after breaking the law. In this wood, there were a lot of men in the same situation who were also forced to leave after breaking the law.

In the woods they had a leader known as Robin Hood, he was described to be bold, brave, and rude, but he was also known for helping others out and being a friend to the public often sending help to the poor. He never allowed his men to harm anyone but the wealthy with great houses and did no work.

Many years after he died people still remembered him for his good deeds. often telling stories and making songs about him. One of the stories was about a time where Robin Hood was standing under a tree when he notices a young man passing by however he doesn't bother him as it looked like he was off to a wedding.

The next day he notices the same young man at the same place but this time he seemed upset, groaning and signing as he repeats the words "Ah the sad day to himself. Robin hood steps out from under the tree and says to Allin the (young man) " I say, young man! have you any money to spare for my merry men and me?"Allin tells him that he has nothing other than five shillings and a wedding ring. He explains that he planned to get married but her father promised her a rich man to which she's due to marry that very day.

In the end, Robin Hood ends up helping the young man by dressing up as a harper. He tells the bishop that he will not play music until he sees the bride and groom. Just then the old groom comes in dressed in rich clothing beside him a teary young girl.

Robin hood tells them "this is no match" and "let the bride chose herself". before blowing his horn and summoning twenty men including the young man. robin hood tells Allin to choose her groom. she ends up choosing Allin and they end up marrying then and there.

Conclusion

I choose this story because I always found Robin Hood to be a very interesting character. Going back to the part of the original story when they said that "Some praised him, some blamed him" and how he was "indeed a rude lawless fellow".

I think that those statements show that no one really knew if he was truly good or bad which sort of makes him mysterious. even when you read different stories of Robin Hood everyone has their own perspective of him

Not to mention him also living in the woods. making him seem even more mysterious. On one hand, he's helping the poor, and on the other hand, he has some type of agenda against the rich. However, I do find him to be considered generous.

I think that the story points out that no matter what kind of person you will always be viewed differently by each person. there's never really a good or bad.
