What is media Ethics? Media ethics explores different types of ethical principles and standards of media. This includes the internet, broadcast media, videos, etc. its purpose is to guide us to make a positive impact through our decisions and actions. Based on the video I watched by The Guardian regarding the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Christopher Wylie a former SCL employee explained how the company used apps on Facebook to “change their audience behavior”. They did this by tricking people into joining the app and then harvested data from the people who not only used and joined it but also their friends on Facebook. They would use a specific type of message over and over again until they started to change their consumer’s minds, without their knowledge. This is why I believe that when looking at different articles, statements, and social media posts it is important to check whether or not that those statements are facts or opinions.
